Hi all, need some help from the experts here! I moved into this place recently and the Iron Chapel, aka my Hall of Pain, aka the base camp of the Swole Patrol, is in trouble. It's super lively in there, and I found my ears were hurting after my workouts (about an hour). I listen fairly loud to modern metal and electronic down there for the most part, and clarity as well as separation is very important to me with the metal. I'm trying different speakers down there to see what I like the best from active monitors to those Proac beasts. This is my first attempt at room treatment and would welcome any input you all could offer, I'm sure I'm making some mistakes here. Plus I'd just like to hear people's experiences with treating rooms in general, I'm shocked at the difference just a few panels made in there. Thanks for the help!

The room:
26' long, 16' wide, 10' wide towards the steps. I have twelve Owens Corning 703 4'x2'x2" panels, 10 shown here. I've doubled up in the corner opposite the speakers and across the fireplace. The pads significantly reduced the feeling my tunes were bouncing all over the place, but it's still not perfect even after playing with a few configurations of panel placement. I also have 7/8" thick vibration pads under the speakers which I found made the bass sound fuller and more pleasant.
Questions:
-I have a umik coming in later this week, any tricks I should employ with REW to help diagnose the room?
-I turned the sub on with some electronic music and immediately felt unpleasant pressure on both my ears. Waiting for a friend to help with phase adjustment. Before buying bass traps and more 703, I'm thinking start with a crawl test for the sub, and also add carpeting on that big bare section of wood flooring?
-I'm going to make frames this weekend for the panels, how many of my panels should I double up to make a 4" frame? I'm thinking two, and the rest remain 2". All frames I'm attempting to leave a 2" gap to the wall.
-For tower speakers, I have ones for my tv on 6" stools and they sound really good, but down here I think it sounded worse. I stand for a lot of the workouts so that surprised me that they sounded better with the tweeters at lower chest height. What gives?
-If I prefer to use isolation pads, I'm assuming I should take off the plastic feet on the bottom of speakers?
