I rarely buy because I make most of my gear except for sophisticated electronics.

Last year I bought 2 high-end phono cartridges. One from DCHFG member and another one from DCHFG dealer. New TTW turntable from Fidelis A/V, NH.

Just bought the new Ortofon2M LVB 250 cartridge, I had my Modwright PH9.0 upgraded to the new version, Dan Wright basically gave a new one with same S/N since I was a beta tester for him, great improvement, these were since January. I have on loan to evaluate a Kitsune HiFi LCR MKV Signature edition phono stage these are the same people that distribute the Holo Audio products, this phono stage is excellent and I have tried a lot of them, I am asking what he would take for it if anyone is interested it retails for $1600, link below to the MK4 the one I have has had some updates www.kitsunehifi.com/product/kte-lcr-1-mk4-mc-mm-mi-lcr-riaa-phono-stage/

I have most everything still from the mid 80s. But I have four systems in different rooms now. Being a widowed empty nester with nowhere to go and nothing else to spend money on in the last year has had some side effects.

I hadn't thought about it until you asked but on reflection I've been buying a lot of stuff recently! Probably in part for reasons cited earlier -- the Covidocene effect. I build a lot of items but a lot of things aren't, I'm pretty sure, feasible for most home construction, like DACs, streaming devices and digital sound processors etc. But I'm starting to think I'm going to have to have a garage sale or something pretty soon. Or a bigger house.

My buying is really sporadic. My last major purchase was very recent, having my Audio Research LS28 upgraded to an LS28SE. Before that I found a really good deal locally on a pair of PS Audio BHK Signature 300 monoblocks. The cost of that was partially defrayed by selling an Audio by Van Alstine FET Valve 600R. +1 on the garage sale notion. I try to offset upgrade costs by selling the replaced piece or trading it in but that's not always possible. I, too, have 4 operating systems right now, and still have lots of other really good gear that isn't used. Some of which is from the '70's and '80's and represents some fairly state-of-the art gear from that era (e.g, Superphon, DB Systems, Connoisseur, Grace, Thorens, Nakamichi).

This makes me think of the obvious corollary to Chris' original question -- what do you do with the old stuff when you buy new stuff?
Unfortunately for me, the old stuff tends to get shoved into closets!
