I know this isn't exactly Hi-Fi but I bet at least some of you watch TV from time to time. What you may not know is that a very big technology update to broadcast TV is taking place this year as US TV stations start to implement ATSC 3.0. Currently all OTA TV signals in HDTV are using ATSC 1.0 which uses MPEG-2 encoding. ATSC 3.0 makes big strides in efficiency by using HEVC (e.g. H.265) video encoding. This will allow for more channels to be broadcast on a single frequency and for the first time 4K OTA streams. This will give OTA broadcasts parity with Internet streaming. Currently, no shipping TVs have built in ATSC 3.0 tuners. But a very innovative company called SiliconDust will soon be selling a Network (i.e. Ethernet/Wif-Fi) tuner that captures the new ATSC 3.0. Check out the link below. I have been using SiliconDust products for more than a decade and their products are fantastic. It also helped me finally "cut the cord" and save a bundle when I dropped Fios TV and just use streaming and OTA TV. Here's a story that will give you a flavor of what ATSC 3.0 will bring to the table. www.tvtechnology.com/news/meredith-nexstar-plan-atsc-30-rollout-in-portland

Thanks Chris this is good stuff. We never were cable people and only OTA until a couple of years ago I started streaming Netflix and eventually Amazon Prim. We are thinking about either Britbox. Amy likes all things British specially period pieces
