When was the last time you checked the distance between your listening position and your speakers?
I had just eyeballed things but got out my handy laser and found I was off by several inches.
I adjusted to get things within a fraction of an inch and had a listen. Immediately the center image firmed up and things sounded just right.
Plus it's fun to play with lasers. If you have a cat, they will want to get in on the fun, too.
