What other Phonos have you heard to come to this conclusion?

My feelings concur. No doubt that this Gold Note is a decent phono pre (because of their history) and has lots of features that I do not find very important in the way I use a phono preamp. I have one TT and one cartridge as I feel most do. But to make that kind of statement to the audio public smacks of being overly impressed by measurement numbers, features, and cost. This is the reason I have stopped reviewing equipment for now. If anyone is contemplating spending that kind of money for very small gains over any $3k-$5k preamps are just probably trying to impress rather than going for a deeper emotional kick-back from the music. If you want to be impressed with the sound from your LP's and get rid of the phono stage altogether and spend a third or fourth of what this Gold Note sells for, then contact Dr Vinyl and make an appt to listen to the DS Audio optical cartridge and make sure you have Dr Vinyl do the installation. I am not monetarily connected to Dr Vinyl, yes I am a friend, but Dr Vinyl has assembled a system that is not mega bucks but sounds like it is

Sailor - couldn’t agree more. Dr. Vinyl installed a DS Audio DS-003 on my VPI Prime with the accompanying phono preamp (energizer) and the sound is leagues beyond anything I’ve had in my system previously.
