I am a jaded audiophile who tried to be a reviewer only to be driven down the rabbit hole too many times by trying to find a balance between what I feel is real and not trying to piss off the world.
I have been to many audio shows only to find about 10% of the systems approach musicality. I began to wonder “WTF” is going on. “Is it me?”. Then you listen in on the conversations over dinner or at the bar of the hotel only to hear the great unwashed public saying the same damning things about how awful some of what being presented is, and only this or that room sounds good.
I have built a fairly decent system and with a history of going back to 1962 building my first Heathkit or Eico audio gear. I got to a good place of balance of not selling my soul or mortgage the house to buy decent equipment and getting away from the DIY life I lived so long.
Well, I was just absolutely and blown away after hearing the latest system that Dr Vinyl has put together.
I have known Jose for some years now and he has always put together great sounding systems, some pretty pricy some not. I think he is a master at this, along with probably the best cartridge, arm, and TT set-up man around including the Stereofool guy, MF!
The System I heard was anchored with the new Qln Prestige One monitor on Stands driven by the latest McGary SA1E. Controlling the system was a Backert preamp. The star of the show was the DS Audio optical cartridge on a PearAudio Blue TT.
I have heard the DS Audio Optical cartridge many times at the audio shows and came away shaking my head as I did often. The differences had to be how Jose sets up a cartridge and arm.
This is not a budget system by all means, and as I said I have heard no better anywhere, anytime, any price.
Jose is a founding corporate member of the DC HiFi Group and you should treat yourself and give him a call and set up an appointment.
