Chris and Mark,
Are either of you using the DSP features in the Puffin as a, gasp, tone control? The old fashioned quad like tilt is a great idea. How do you like the air adjustment?

Ah, tone controls, reminds of the olden days when a little 2dB bass and treble boost dialed into my PAS3 preamp made records sound magical!
The Puffin is a little tone control power house, with in addition to bass and treble shelving controls, includes "tilt," "air," "bass boost (which I gather is a loudness compensation)," as well as adjustable high and low frequency filters for rumble and hiss control.
Park in his online manual describes using "tilt" to adjust the "warmth" of an lp and to compensate for individual recording oddities.
He also describes using "air" as a means of duplicating the effects of cartridge loading on frequency response, which is how I've used it. I put up some graphs showing how this can work, on the "vinyl" page of this forum -- the page where Chris put up a video showing the Puffin's azimuth aligning abilities. These show how the air control gives very similar results to cartridge loading adjustments.
But to answer your question, I for one don't use the Puffin much as an overall tone control because 1: I'm too lazy to constantly fiddle with it once its been set up, 2: I use the Puffin only for phono (although it could work as well with high level sources), and 3: I use the room parametric eq settings available on my DEQX for room equalization, which was absolutely unheard of back in the 1970s when I had my old Dynaco PAS-3!

I got a hold of the Kenny Burrell 5 album CD reissue that was mentioned by John on the recent April DCHFG virtual meeting. Its a really nice collection, with a lot of other great players. It includes what appears to be the original album liner notes, but they are so tiny that I need a good magnifying glass to see them! I'm guessing getting the original LPs would be difficult as many were released before 1960. I had some trouble finding it though, because it turns out there are a lot of Kenny Burrell CD collections available, some probably a lot better than others. I finally got this one on Amazon for $18 -- what a deal! Below is an image of this collection.
