I've always enjoyed Gene's down to earth approach. He also has the engineering background and equipment to back up his statements. A bit like Amir at ASR. I like this trend in HiFi pragmatism.

Here we go. Another presentation that measurements tell all. He makes a very strong argument that speaker cables cannot make much difference yet he starts the vid saying that Kimber 8tc is his favorite cable., WTF? I will always maintain that your ears are the only measurement device ones needs. Choices of equipment for one’s systems are personal and subjective.. one has to learn to trust your own ears. The most important thing he said (for me) was we can get influenced to what we think we hear from just the suggestion that this widget will sound better that that widget. I believe this is very true, otherwise salesmen would not exist. Cables may measure the same but they sound different. We know this. It is up to the individual to choose perceived value. If your “value” is to impress guest listener then go ahead and spend the bucks, your choice. True music lovers will build a system that satisfies the need to allow them to get engaged with the music.

What Sailor said. I like Magnepans. They don't measure well by many traditional means. This trend in Hifi pragmatism, that measurements tell all, moves the objectivity metric from double-blind testing to double-deaf testing.

Measure first when you can, then listen because your ears (brain) are the final judge.
