From John Gatski (not a new member):
We had a bit of a snafu with our YouTube video meeting Aug. 29, but we were able to resuscitate it an hour later - by switching to Google Meet, and number of members were able to log in. Heretofore we will either use Google Meet or Zoom. Meet is similar to Zoom and is free for another month. We are going to do anothermeeting in a couple of weeks.
To summarize, the biz side of the Aug. 29 meeting:
•Pandemic has necessitated more online to communicate with members. So we will do more online activities including:
member system profiles on Youtube and the web site; area dealer profiles and specific product profiles.
Since we are, however, a group that likes to personally meet up, we will conduct limited attendance social get togethers at area restaurants, coffee shops, etc. that have a effective social distancing set up. A poll is attached to ascertain members feelings on meeting in small groups with safety protocols evoked.
•Also I encourage all members to sign up for the dchifi.group forum, so we can have increased discussions while the pandemic runs its course and discuss the myriad audio related issues. And post more stuff for sale to the Emporium. Also, we have our public Facebook page, DCHFG Members Only private page that is only visible to members, DCHFG Twitter page and the DCHFG Constant Contact Newsletter.
•DCHFG Webmaster Chris Barker has posted a link to the working part of Saturday's meeting on the Youtube channel:
•As mentioned in our last newsletter my 24/192, I have a download link for any members who wants the classical piano recording I did last Dec. It is free! Email me at dchfg@verizon.net to get it.
Recording Of The Month
•As mentioned in the meeting, one of my recommended albums these days is the 1993 reissue of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Violin Concerto with Pinchas Zucherman, Leonard Bernstein conducting The New York Philharmonic. The Sony reissue was labeled under the Royal Edition: "His Royal Highness - The Prnice of Wales; it featured the "Concerto For Violin And Orchestra In E Minor, Op. 6" recorded in 1969 and Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4, which were recorded in 1958. The CD also includes early 1960s recordings of "War March Of The Priests From 'Athalie', Op. 74 Overture" and "The Hebrides" ("Fingal's Cave"), Op. 26.
The Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy violin concerti is impressive with a pre-Dolby analog technology capture of violin tone that is immersive and most live-like. The orchestra dynamics are perfect, and the noise next to nil. Pretty good for two bucks at a used CD store. Lots of treasures to find as people dump their CD collections. i say bring em on. I bought a second disc for giveaway this month to the first member who requests it via email. Type "I want the Aug. DCHFG CD-of-the-Month" in the email.
