Reviewing the IBasso Dx-220 for Everything Audio. The company's flagship Hi-Res player/DAC/HP amp is an incredible performer that combines ergonomic elements of a smart phone, high-end DAC and headphone amp. Utilizing the pristine ESS 9028 Pro DAC chip, and a high-end volume control, the DX-220 sounds as good or better than a number of plug-em-in audiophile DACs. My AKG 702s, Sennheiser 650, KLH Ultimate One and other cans reveal a deep, wide soundstage with smooth, yet, live like dynamics. Throw in the smartphone control of the device for basic streaming of audio apps, such as Tidal, etc, digital and line output and a hearty 7 hour playtime battery, this player may be the best on the market. And I have heard them all, fron the $200 dollar ones to well, over a grand. The DX-220 is the best, so far. $979 seems like a lot, but this is a battery powered audiophile DAC that just so happens to be a great headphone amp. Plug it in your home system. It will still impress you. Stay tuned.
