I would not buy the original JC3 and I would think the + might be marginally better than the JR just look at the specs and compare the jr to the + s/n ratio is better on the jr and I am hearing the best playback I have ever heard. I compared it to the LKV Phono 2SB at 3k the Gold Note PH10 the Project Phono box RS with battery ps and the Tavish Audio Adagio and was better than the first 3 and if did not want to worry about tubes the Tavish would be equal and might of kept it. It really is good very avvurate and quiet with moving coil. Funny how I just put on a mm and it is nosier than the AT ART9.

Not sure on the original JC3, but when comparing the jr. to the 3+ side by side the 3+ was quite a bit better. A bigger and much more fleshed out sound. The jr. was very good for the price. But was thin sounding compared to the 3+. Depending what someone was using already, (imo) either would be competitive in there price range or up.

For those interested, James Tanner of Bryston sent me the attached white paper on the BLP-1 turntable and BTP-1 power supply. Larry Bryston Turntable QA.pdf (501.58 KB)

Larry, I've been doing some more work with the BLP-1. I wanted to check the cartridge alignment and generate an arc protractor for when I change cartridges. I was having trouble getting the correct numbers so I headed over to the Vinyl Asylum. John Elison replied with the correct numbers. He really is the cartridge alignment guru. You may want to printout your own copy of the arc using his numbers so you have something to use down the road. BLP-1 Alignment Thread

Chris.
Very interesting. When I got my BLP-1 I checked the alignment with my DB Systems protractor (Baerwald) and didn't have any issues in aligning the Dynavector 20X2. It sits quite far back in the slots (> 3/4 of the way back).

I don't think Bryston had their heart in it? My BLP-1 still works well and I am happy to own it. I have become a fan of Gold Note now that I have purchased their PH-10 phono preamp. I really like the looks of the Gold Note Mediterraneo Turntable and would buy one at a healthy discount!

Can't speak to where Bryston was coming from, but certainly breaking into the TT market can't be easy given the number of established players out there. It will be interesting to see what comes of the mention that Bryston was looking for other tables. I suggested in the thread that, given Bryston's expertise in the electronic realm, maybe they could market variants of the BTP1 power supply for use with other manufacturers tables. Phoenix Engineering had some really nice products in the Eagle, Falcon and Roadrunner units, but they are no longer being produced (there is a collaboration between Phoenix Engineering and SOTA but I haven't quite been able to figure out what, if anything, might ultimately be available for tables other than SOTA). Given the number of products out there for turntable speed control it does seem like there may be a market.

This would seem to be the final word on the Bryston turntable (posted by James Tanner of Bryston in the Audiocircle forums on 11/9/19):
"The table was excellent and we built the power supply which tested out to be one of the best power supplies available regardless of price.
We committed to 200 tables and sales were good at first but slowed significantly in the last half of the year.
I assume turntables are a product that people want to buy from a long-term turntable manufacturer rather than Bryston.

PS - we do have other table manufacturers wanting to buy our turntable power supply though. :thumb:"
