I have a bunch of turntable, some have dust covers - other's don't When I look at prices for a plastic dust cover I see prices in the $250 and more range. Not inexpensive. Recently, I stumbled upon a site that makes dust covers out of fabric that seem to be reasonably attractive and only cost $25 or so. I think I will order one to give it try? Digital Deck Covers

Well, I'd be curious to hear how these work out because I notice the same thing -- a new plexiglass dust cover for my thorens 125, without hinges or anything, costs close to what I paid for the original turntable! I'd be worried a fabric dust cover would tend to get caught up in things -- tone arms, anti skate weights, styli etc.

I did get a couple. They are pretty much as they look. They are floppy as opposed to being a rigid form. They do have a structure so you can pretty easily put them on and take them off without affecting your turntable if you are careful. They do the job of blocking dust from settling so I think they are worth it for their cost/value. I use them for turntables I do not use often.

The cartridge/arm sticks pretty far forward and the cables back.

The cartridge/arm sticks pretty far forward and the cables back. I have one for my Classic which is similar in that it is a VPI. It works - you just need to be careful putting on and off. It also will flatten slightly the armwand wire that may or may not affect your anti-skating depending on your setup. I think it is fine but you may not like it? YMMV.

I contacted Audioshield. They make a couple of dust covers for the Prime, one of which I think they call the “basic” model. When I saw it at the last CAF it was pretty reasonable. I’ll post what it is when I find out.

A buddy of mine got a custom dustcover for his turntable made at ABAC Acrylic Specialists on Wilkins Road in Rockville. abaccompany.com/He measured but then ended up bringing the turntable (VPI scout Jr) to ABAC so he could double check measurements. Buddy feels he did a great job. Attached are pictures of the turntable and another from the back so you can see cutouts for interconnects and power. Bob C Attachments:

I ended up buying the AudioShield Basic, which cost $146 including shipping. I have the Prime on a maple butcher block and there isn't a lot of area outside of the Prime plinth/feet/motor for a full cover. The Basic covers the table, resting on the platter, and is open in the back for the cables. A full cover would be really nice, but would be a tight fit on the butcher block. Did your buddy happen to mention the cost of the one he had made?
